Elena’s themes, whatever the media, involve relationships between people, how they rub up against each other. Sometimes fleeting, sometimes deeply scarring. Sometimes we have insight into the effect someone has had on us, sometimes we don’t.

Much of her work uses clothes and household textiles: these items bring with them a ready made short cut to the personal and domestic. These items are altered and sometimes destroyed to skew meaning.

 The processes used, whether stitched or drawn, are carefully crafted, detailed, time consuming and often obsessive.
